Under the presidency of Felipe Valencia (Utah State University) and organized by Rosilie Hern\u00e1ndez (University of Illinois Chicago) and Anne J. Cruz (University of Miami), the conference will take place from <strong class=\"strong\">27-29 September 2023<\/strong> on the campus of the University of Illinois, Chicago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">The deadline for submissions is <strong class=\"strong\">Saturday, 10 June 2023<\/strong>. Confirmations of acceptance will be emailed by <strong class=\"strong\">early July 2023<\/strong>. The conference will be in-person only. All participants must join the Society as members at the time of conference registration; membership includes subscription to its premier journal, <i class=\"italic\"> <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/srbhp.org\/caliope\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Cal\u00edope<\/a><\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page__section\">\n<div class=\"page__section-wrap\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\">Conference Theme<\/h2>\n<h5 class=\"h5 h5-crimson\"><i><br \/>\nThe Poetic Function, Then and Now:<br \/>\nVersions and Inversions of Early Modern Hispanic Poetry<\/i><\/h5>\n<p class=\"p\">The theme for the conference is the societal and aesthetic functions of poetry, from the new structures and forms created during the early modern period, through their evolution to contemporary movements across Spain and the Americas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">The following themes are suggested for papers, panels, and round tables. Other themes on poetry and poetics in Spain and the Americas will also be considered:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list\">\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Epic Reinventions<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Modern Mythologies<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Poetic Function, Social Poetry<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Materialities and Immaterialities<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Performance Poetics<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Senses and Emotions<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Feminist Inversions of Golden Age Poetry<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Imitation versus Confession<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Graphic Poems<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Poetics of Race<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"item item-crimson\"><strong class=\"strong\">Discourses of Sexualities<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page__section\">\n<div class=\"page__section-wrap\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\">SUBMISSIONS<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p\">SRBHP members are invited to submit proposals for individual presentations, panels, or roundtables<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Languages for the conference are English and Spanish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Papers should not exceed 20 minutes; panels and round tables with four participants must limit each participant to 15 minutes maximum presentation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">Individual presenters and organizers of panels and round tables will submit proposals through the google form links provided below for each category.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"h6 h6-lato\"><strong class=\"strong\">INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATIONS:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p p-margin-top-none p-padding-left\">Name \/\/ Brief CV (100 words) \/\/ Title \/\/ Abstract (250 words maximum).<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"h6 h6-lato\"><strong class=\"strong\">PANELS:<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p p-margin-top-none p-padding-left\">Panel Title<br \/>\n<span class=\"underline\">For each paper presenter (3-4 maximum):<\/span><br \/>\nName of presenter \/\/ Brief CV (100 words maximum per CV) \/\/ Title \/\/ Abstract (250 words maximum).<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"h6 h6-lato\"><strong class=\"strong\">ROUND TABLES<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p p-margin-top-none  p-padding-left\">Title \/\/ Roundtable Summative Abstract (150 words maximum<br \/>\n<span class=\"underline\">For each paper presenter (3-4 maximum):<\/span><br \/>\nNames of participant \/\/ Brief CV (100 words maximum per CV) \/\/ Title \/\/ Abstract (150 words maximum).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\"><a target=\"_blank\" class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScJutCCN8e2_TjrYOUHE9YjfiifUEU0qfaacVk_kKOLaQ7tNQ\/viewform\" rel=\"noopener\">SUBMISSION LINK<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page__section\">\n<div class=\"page__section-wrap\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\">CONFERENCE PROGRAM<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p\">To be posted after submissions are reviewed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page__section\">\n<div class=\"page__section-wrap\">\n<h2 class=\"h2\">AWARDS<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p\">The Society is pleased to announce it will grant several awards to graduate students and assistant professors. The Society aims to encourage young scholars in the field of poetry and poetics and to aid them in attending its conferences. Materials presented for awards should be original and unpublished.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p\">The Founders Prize for Best Graduate Student Paper comes with an award of $200.<br \/>\nThe Society will also offer three (3) Travel Awards of $500.00 each to graduate students and assistant professors to help cover conference registration and hotel expenses.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"h6 h6-lato\"><strong class=\"strong\">FOUNDERS PRIZE &#8211; BEST GRADUATE STUDENT PAPER<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p p-padding-left\">\n                        Graduate students accepted for individual presentations (see above) will be eligible to compete for the \u201cFounders Prize\u201d.
